Fall Favorites Tag: Remixed

I am not a warm weather person. It is uncomfortably humid where I live, so my summers are sticky and suffocating. On the flip-side, my winters are frozen and eternal. The spring and fall months are my reprieves, so I get very excited once they arrive.

To help immerse myself into the first official week of fall, I thought it would be fun to try out the Fall Favorites tag that became popular among beauty gurus on YouTube last fall. Since I am a scent junkie, and not a beauty guru, I decided to tweak the questions a little to suit my interests!

Favorite Candle
Bath & Body Works – Leaves

This is just my perfect autumn fragrance. It’s the first scent that I think of in relation to the fall season, and it’s the only one I cannot go without once the season begins.

Favorite Wax Melt
Goose Creek – Campfire Marshmallow

This scent is very, very similar to a popular pick for the candle question, which is Bath & Body Works – Marshmallow Fireside. However, I prefer Goose Creeks’ version by far. It is stronger, and in my opinion, the scent throw is much better. Highly recommended!

Favorite Body Care
Bath & Body Works – Plum Cider Warmth

These products are from the 2015 fall traditions line. I regret not buying a matching shower gel, or the full-sized bottle of fragrance mist. They seemed to sell out fast.

Favorite Perfume
Victoria’s Secret – Forever Sexy

I have a whole mob of perfumes for cooler weather, but this rollerball has been my favorite transitional warmer-to-cooler weather choice for the past 2 fall seasons.

Favorite Lip Color
NYX – Devil’s Food Cake

I prefer lip glosses to lipsticks, and the Nyx Butter Glosses are pigmented enough to put deep fall shades on my lips, while providing the glossy finish that I like.

Favorite Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced – Chocolate Bon Bons

I didn’t think of this as a fall-related palette until this past month, and now I can’t stay away from it. The deep browns, the mauve/taupe and gray shades… it’s just so perfect for the season.

Favorite Clothing Item

A scarf paired with a sweater is likely how one would see me dressed between October and March, whether I’m inside or outside.

Favorite Drink
Pumpkin Spice Latte

I like both homemade and Starbucks PSLs. If it’s one of those times when I’m trying to lay off of the caffeine, then my go-to fall drink is a decaf vanilla chai tea latte… but I’ll still be craving a PSL.

Favorite Dessert
Tie-dye Cupcakes

I love making these spooky, colorful treats for Halloween gatherings. They are especially great because it’s a surprise whenever someone bites into them!

Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Pumpkin Pie

The truth is, I LOVE Thanksgiving dinner. All of it. I like to cook each dish, I like to eat each dish, I like the days of leftovers that follow. I couldn’t pick just one, so I decided to go for the dessert – pumpkin pie. The reason why is that I can have Thanksgiving dishes year-round, but I pretty much only have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. It’s a little more special.

Favorite Fall Movie
Rob Zombie Movies

This guy just does creepy really well, but what I appreciate the most are the bits of humor that sneak by in his films. The Halloween remake was festive and entertaining.

Favorite Fall TV Show
American Horror Story

I watch AHS every fall, as well as The Walking Dead, but I’m not a superfan of either show. I’m a Game of Thrones girl. However, I have enjoyed watching each season of American Horror Story so far. Season 2: Asylum was my favorite, and one I may have to re-watch.

Favorite Halloween Costume

Simple, easy, and obvious is the way I go for Halloween – or I should say, this is the stage that I’ve graduated to now. I killed it on costumes as a kid. I did cool face paint looks as a teen. I did “sexy” costumes as a young adult. Since age 24, I may have drinks with friends or take my nieces out trick or treating for Halloween, but I’ll typically stay home, eat candy, and watch horror movies with my boyfriend. I tag everyone to do the Fall Favorites tag, whether it is my remixed version, or the original by Jaclyn Hill!

The New Bath & Body Works Secret Wonderland

Sometimes change is good, but I think most people are naturally resistant to change anyway. All of the drama (and some hype) surrounding the Yankee Candle label redesign has made me a little more aware of how appreciative I am of simply the look of the products with which I fill my living space. Let’s face it – a bottle of lotion decorated with graphic art that resembles something I would love to own as a print and hang on my wall, is better than a clear bottle with 2 plain-text black words on it. (Or is it? We all have our own taste…)

The new packaging for the Bath & Body Works fragrance Secret Wonderland wouldn’t receive any negative criticism from me if these were brand new items. However, the former look of this scent was nearly half of its appeal for me, so this is a resistant-to-change moment for me. I found the name and the style of Secret Wonderland beautiful, whimsical, and alluring; more importantly, it lived up to its name, and it was something I was more than willing to display on my dresser. I loved it.

I don’t hate the new packaging. With the name “Secret Wonderland” stripped from the designs, it’s perfectly fine (the font is a little lackluster, but it’s not the end of the world). I love flowers, I love the colors used in the new repackaged products. I just think it’s a downgrade from the original style. A single blue flower doesn’t convey to me the essence of a secret wonderland. It doesn’t really convey anything to me at all except that it’s an ordinary floral scent.

Oh well, it is what it is. There are much more important things to worry about, right? I have always paired Secret Wonderland and another Bath & Body Works fragrance, Be Enchanted, together in my mind. Could Be Enchanted be the next scent to go under the knife for a make-over?

Products I’m Trying: June 2016

With all of the great sales going on so far this summer, I couldn’t help but order new products from a few of my favorite stores. I didn’t go too crazy, but I did collect a variety of things that I have already started trying out. These are the few of the products that I’m currently focusing on:

Victoria’s Secret “Victoria” Rollerball Perfume
I ordered this online without smelling it in the store first. I was drawn to the appearance of the full size product that was also part of the Victoria’s Secret semi-annual sale, but opted for the smaller version for $10 in case I wasn’t impressed. I’m a sucker for gorgeous packaging, and this product nailed it. I am so glad that I bought this scent! The primary scent notes listed on the website for this fragrance included berries (if I remember correctly – the product is now unavailable), so I was afraid that I wouldn’t enjoy this scent because I don’t usually favor fruity notes. However, it’s a very feminine scent that is perfect for this time of year. It doesn’t fall too far into the fresh and clean scent category, and it’s very far from too musky or spicy. It falls right in the middle as a soft, feminine, fruity/floral mix. I’ve been gravitating towards it all week.

Body Care:
Bath & Body Works “World Garden” Collection
I missed this collection entirely when it originally came out around the spring of 2014. During the summer of 2015, I could no longer resist and I started searching online for all 3 of the fine fragrance mists: Morocco Orchid & Pink Amber, Tokyo Lotus & Apple Blossom, and London Tulips & Raspberry Tea. Since my mists were ultimately ordered from Amazon, the prices were marked up due to being limited edition, so I didn’t get the complete sets. Naturally, I was excited to find out that these scents were returning for Bath & Body Work’s semi-annual sale this summer, and I placed an order for the matching lotions and shower gels. I cannot wait to use all 3 of these fragrances this summer, and to get the full effect of each scent by layering with gel, lotion, and mist. I am a sucker for great smelling florals and this collection is right up my alley. Not to mention, the packaging is gorgeous!

Home Fragrance:
Goose Creek “Confetti Cake” Wax Melt
Like I tend to do with a lot of the products that I try, I ordered this wax melt online without having the chance to smell it first. I have had great luck with Goose Creek products, so I wasn’t worried that I would hate it. I just wasn’t sure what to expect. The scent description for this product mentions notes of red berry, orange, mandarin, and peach, along with whipped butter, vanilla, and sugar. It includes a photo of a piece of cake, so I sort of expected a vanilla cake base with a fruity twist. What I initially picked up on after melting one cube was a strong lemon-lime type note; which makes sense, I guess, due to the citrusy notes included in the description. What it really reminded me of was cereal that I ate as a child, such as Trix or Fruity Pebbles. Like I said, I wasn’t sure of what exactly to expect – but I don’t dislike this scent, even though it’s not the type of vanilla cake scent I favor. It’s still nice, and is actually a really refreshing scent to experience when walking into a room. To me, it’s a very original approach to a foodie, fruity, spring/summer scent and I appreciate that it’s not something I can find anywhere else. On a personal, more sentimental note, Confetti Cake was a cute option to have on hand because of all the celebrating I’ve been doing this month for graduations, birthdays, holidays, etc. It’s been very seasonally appropriate!

Kat Von D “Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad” in Plum
I have not tried this eyeshadow out on my eyes yet, but excellent reviews forced me to add this quad to my Sephora order a couple of weeks ago. I will say that the look and feel of these shadows is great! Purple is my favorite color, so I may be biased here. However, I don’t doubt that this product will be something I enjoy wearing throughout the summer. I think what is holding me back is that I associate a deep purple or plum eye look with fall, and in the summer months I prefer lighter and brighter makeup looks. With that being said, I will push myself out of my comfort zone and try this product – and not just for swatches!

Honorable Mention:
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
I feel as though I’ve seen the light. I’ve been aware of all of the hype surrounding the Beauty Blender for a while now, but I figured it couldn’t be all that much better than using brushes. I think I was wrong. Rather than splurge on a Beauty Blender, I heard about the Real Techniques sponge as a dupe and ordered it for around $7 from Amazon. The first time I used it, I was using the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless foundation and was taken aback by how much better it sat on my skin when using a sponge application rather than a brush. I am still getting the hang of this technique and trying to figure out the best way to use this sponge, and I haven’t completely dismissed my brushes yet. For some foundations, it works better to apply it first with a brush, and then soften it up with the Real Techniques sponge. Either way, it’s safe to say I am extremely pleased with this purchase and that so far, it has exceeded my expectations.

Ipsy Glam Bag June 2015

I received my June Swim Into Beauty Ipsy Glam Bag on the 11th this month. I have to say, I am pretty pleased with my subscription to this service so far. I can’t believe it’s already been 5 months! I will admit, I was a bit worried after reading blog posts and Youtube reviews. I’ve had this feeling every month that I might hate what I receive and want to cancel my subscription, but that hasn’t happened yet. I love the various brands and types of products I get to add to my collection. After 5 great bags in a row, I think it’s safe to say I won’t be ending my experience with Ipsy anytime soon!

If you would like to sign up to give Ipsy a try, feel free to use my referral link here or go to ipsy.com to check out what they have to offer.

Ipsy Glam Bag May 2015

I’ve been so wrapped up with school this month that I’d almost completely forgotten about my Ipsy Glam Bag. By the time I realized that I should check if my tracking information had been e-mailed yet (on Monday, May 11th), the bag was actually already out for delivery! It was the fastest I’ve received my bag since joining in January. I guess it’s appropriate that this month’s theme is Jetsetter .

What I love about this month’s bag is that every item is something I haven’t received from Ipsy yet. More importantly, it contained things that I’m lacking and was planning on purchasing anyway! I’m happy to have a new eyeliner and bronzer to try, and I’m excited to try everything else as well. Once again, I’m happy with what I received from Ipsy.

If you’d like to receive a Glam Bag of your own for $10 per month, my referral link is right here! Or check out ipsy.com for more info. If you’d like more details about what’s included in my bag, feel free to leave a comment. 🙂

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2015

I kept forgetting to post about my Ipsy Glam Bag! I received this month’s Beautifully Bohemian bag on the 13th. It came earlier than expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. As usual, I already knew what I was getting in the bag, so that much wasn’t a surprise.

I loved this bag! I’ve developed a love of fragrances over the years and thought that the Femina EDT was nice. I was beyond thrilled to receive a perfume as one of my items. It’ll certainly be a lovely scent for the rest of spring. I have to admit, although I do love everything else, I’ve not tried the other items yet. I’m totally swamped with school and work. At the moment, I’ve been awake 24 hours already and am heading to bed. I never really have time for anything else…

I would be more than happy to go into greater detail about my Ipsy bags in the future if anyone is interested. If you would like to receive one of your own, you can use my referral link here or go to ipsy.com and sign up. Only $10 a month (including shipping!) for 4 – 5 beauty items and fashionable bags. This is my 3rd month subscribed and I don’t plan on canceling.

I’m exhausted. It’s almost 6am. I better go to sleep!

Ipsy Glam Bag March 2015

I received my second Ipsy Glam Bag on March 14th this year, and since I get overly excited about my bags, I already knew what I was getting because I checked. It wasn’t much of a surprise, but I still loved everything included in the bag! I think I’m most excited about the shadow/crease duet Crown brush.

If you’d like to receive your own Ipsy Glam Bag, sign up here! For only $10 a month, I haven’t felt the need to unsubscribe to the service yet. I think I will continue paying until I start getting bags that disappoint me. So far, so good!
