Merry Christmas Eve! I’m still sick today so I’m taking it easy. I’m not going to cook dinner or bake cupcakes like I planned to do today. Instead, my mom is going to cook a turkey with a few sides and has a chocolate silk pie for me. I’m going to paint my nails and then eventually curl up on the couch to watch movies. Being sick doesn’t sound too bad right now, does it?
Before it all comes down, I wanted to share photos of some of my favorite holiday decor. I’m slowly turning into an ornament collector, or baubles as they’re called by some. A lot of the things I’ve collected are mismatched and there really isn’t a cohesive theme to my winter holiday decor. It’s just a mashup of whatever I thought was cute! Here are a few of those things:
I picked out a few of my favorite ornaments. I’ve got some decor that was passed down from my mother, a couple of 3-wick candle holders from Bath & Body Works, some fake and real plants, a Wisconsin Badger snowman, and more. There are some special things that I’m missing here, but hey, there is always next year.
I hope everyone is having, or will have, a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.
It’s about time that I posted photos of my Christmas trees! I didn’t end up decorating my large Christmas tree this year, so I’ve been surrounded by mini trees all month. My nieces helped me decorate two of them, which is always a fun activity for us to do when they come over to visit. I’m sure I’ll be sad to put the colorful trees away next month like I usually am when the new year begins. My trees have become my favorite part of my holiday decor. I have some favorite ornaments as well that I will post about tomorrow.
It can be difficult to see it in person, but there is a baby tree next to that Santa.
I mentioned a few times that I was away from home for four days for work related stuff. I was so excited to come home, but since I’ve been home I came down with a cold! I’m not so sure I’m going to be cooking my Italian dinner for everyone if I’m still ill, since I don’t want to contaminate others. As of now, my Christmas plans are up in the air.
I’ve been in bed all day, drinking lots of tea and watching all of the holiday episodes from That ’70s Show. It is snowing again, so we’re guaranteed a white Christmas at this point. I’ve had plenty of time to relax and watch the snowflakes drop down all around me through my windows; it’s actually really calming (when I know I’m not going to go out and shovel any of it).

It’s the Monday before Christmas! This month (well, this entire year) has just flown by for me. There isn’t a whole lot of time left to get Christmas presents or bake yummy treats. I had to place a couple of last minute orders on Amazon Prime early this morning to finally wrap up my gift shopping for this season.
I may not have all of my Christmas trees and winter scents with me where I’m staying for a couple of days, but the holiday cheer that I do still get to enjoy are some of my favorite Christmas tunes. In no particular order, these are a few of the songs I’ll be blasting until the 26th of December.
Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You
Christina Aguilera – Merry Christmas Baby
Ray Charles – Winter Wonderland
Elvis Presley – Blue Christmas
Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin – A Marshmallow World
Louis Armstrong – White Christmas
Il Volo – Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
Eartha Kitt – Santa Baby
Just a quick post before I start getting ready: I finally got my new winter body care from Bath & Body Works! I’ve had my eyes on Gingerbread Latte for quite some time now. It was worth the wait. It is spicy, yummy, and quite adorable.
A few scents were released with a New Year’s Eve theme that I couldn’t resist. I got three fine fragrance mists out of this collection: Cocktail Dress, Pink Confetti, and Wrapped in Sugar. There was also a Champagne Toast set, but since I’m not a huge fan of the home fragrance in that scent, I didn’t think I’d enjoy the body care.
I needed some shower gels as well. Pink Chiffon (rumored to be ‘retiring’ after the semi-annual sale!) is my favorite spring scent, so I was thinking ahead when I added it to my order. Sugar Plum Swirl sounded like a perfect match to all of the Plum Cider Warmth lotion I picked up last fall, and I was happy to add another holiday-themed scent to my order.
I also received a wonderful surprise! My boyfriend knew that I wanted the Pink Chiffon perfume from Bath & Body Works. Since I was so excited about my Pink Chiffon shower gel, he let me open this Christmas gift early. What a guy.
Today is my first Christmas celebration with family members. There will be lots of eating, drinking, and being merry. I’ve lost track of all of the appetizers on the menu, and it sounds like there will be plenty of delicious cocktail options to keep us warm and jolly. Oh, and it’s still going to snow, of course. I already shoveled at 7 AM but I’m anticipating a second or third round. I hope everyone is having a fun and safe weekend-before-Christmas!
Today I wanted to share one of my first holiday purchases of the season; it was a ‘must have’ for me once I saw the previews. Too Faced released several holiday gift sets ranging from $12 to about $60, including lip products, eyeshadows, mascara, and more. I’m so glad that I got my hands on the one set I was most excited for: Grande Hotel Café.
This particular set houses three holiday-themed palettes: Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Cookie, and Eggnog Latte. Each one is scented according to its name, and contains six eyeshadow colors colors each. Also included in the set are two blushes, a bronzer, and a Better Than Sex mascara.
I received this makeup set from Too Faced a couple of weeks ago, but I challenged myself not to start using it until Christmas and New Year’s Eve were closer. Today is the day!
I have a set of Philosophy perfumes that match perfectly with Grande Hotel Café’s colorful packaging. Maybe I should start using these sets together? I did get them both just for the holidays!
Today and tomorrow my life is all about snow. Some of my plans have been cancelled and my new plans for the time being are to keep up with the shoveling whilst cooking and baking. I couldn’t decide whether I wanted jambalaya or tacos for lunch, so I cooked up some Cajun chicken tacos. They came out a liiittle too spicy for me, so I had to add more sour cream to my tacos than I usually do. With all of the frost outside, I guess I could use the heat.
I also spontaneously picked up a couple more gifts while running out to get supplies for my snowed-in weekend. I couldn’t resist these little cuties for the kids in my family. I didn’t intend for it to be a tradition, but I seem to buy one or more of these as a gift every Christmas. It’s probably my past as a Beanie Baby collector that draws me to these TY stuffed animals.
Now it is time for me to bake more cookies as the snow falls and waits for me to shovel it away. Happy Friday!
Where I live it is important to stay warm during winter, so hot coffees, teas, and cocoas are part of my diet every single day. The holidays are just an excuse to take them with more sugars and creams than usual.
What I have been drinking most often this month is a regular black coffee with two tablespoons of Silk Almond creamer in Caramel. It’s no salted caramel latte from Starbucks, which I also love this time of year, but it is healthier and less expensive. It has a great flavor as it is, but if I want to jazz it up, I’ll add a little bit of my Torani caramel sauce.
I also drink peppermint tea every day during winter. I absolutely love this tea. It is soothing and refreshing, and I don’t need to add anything to it as its natural flavor is excellent. If I run out of peppermint, I’ll have some green tea.
Hot cocoa is another beverage I drink throughout the winter season, of course. I know I am not alone in this! Whipped cream and chocolate shavings are a nice touch, but lately I like a pile of mini marshmallows.
I can’t post about winter go-to beverages without mentioning a peppermint mocha from Starbucks. That would just feel wrong. However, after hectic shopping trips lately, or busy days putting up decor or baking cookies for hours, since I’ll be inside with the heat blasting I’ll take a frappuccino to cool off from all the work!
From time to time I’ll have a hot beverage from Starbucks as well. I like to have my homemade lattes most often, but since I’m out shopping so much in December, it helps to begin or finish each trip with a caffeine boost or a yummy hot chocolate.
I had a lot of fun baking and decorating my first round of Christmas cookies. I put on the Frank Sinatra Christmas station on Pandora and was up all night and into the morning working on some goodies for my family and friends. My boyfriend was hard at work putting all of the lights and decor up outside – yes, in total darkness. We’re night owls this season, but at least we’re night owls together.
I made milk chocolate bark with caramel drizzle, crushed Reese’s cups, M&Ms, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. I think the kids in my family will enjoy them.
I was going through some of my old photos for reminders of what kind of treats were made for previous holiday seasons. Last year’s batches of Christmas cookies and bark were a little different.
And the year before, it was all about easy and simple cookies, because my energy went to something else. I teamed up with my sister and we made a small village of gingerbread houses. I’m sad that I didn’t get pictures of each one.
Gingerbread houses are a lot more difficult to build than I remembered from my childhood. At least my nieces enjoyed destroying and eating them. This is why I’ve stuck to just making the cookies…
