Fall Fun Series II: A Plethora of Pumpkins

Pumpkin spice update 2017: I’m still basic. However, there has been noticeably less straight-up pumpkin spice in my life this fall. If anything, the combination of pumpkin cake & frosting has taken its place. I found myself adding many scented candles and wax melts into various shopping carts over the summer that went along with that concept. It is the year of the pumpkin cupcake.

Yankee Candle’s Pumpkin Buttercream, Goose Creek’s Frosted Pumpkin Cake, and Bath & Body Works’ Pumpkin Cupcake are some new-to-me candle scents I’ve enjoyed this season. I originally planned to compare and contrast the three candles with one another, but each scent is unique in its own way and is a welcome addition to my fall collection.

I gathered up a few new-to-me pumpkin themed wax melts to use throughout the autumn season as well.

Vintage Chic Scents – Headless Great Pumpkin
Vintage Chic Scents – Loretta’s Haunted Plantation House
Dessa’s Homespun Scents – Pumpkin-Mallow Bake
The Bathing Garden – Pumpkin Pie Spice
The Bathing Garden – Banshee Dreams
Candles From The Keeping Room – Pumpkin Cupcake
Candles From The Keeping Room – Pumpkin Mocha Latte
Scentsy – Very Peary Pumpkin
Goose Creek – Pumpkin Caramel Swirl
Goose Creek – Pumpkin Pie
Goose Creek – Pumpkin Cinnamon Ice Cream
Super Tarts – Psycho
Super Tarts – Elm Street

The rest of my recently purchased & used pumpkin favorites so far this fall include decor, hand soaps, body care, and a couple more home fragrance items.

A sparkly gold 3-wick candle holder from Bath & Body Works, a festive Jack-o’-lantern towel for the kitchen, and last year’s mug I completely forgot about until the other day.

Yankee Candle’s Moonbeams on Pumpkins 2-wick tumbler, Bath & Body Works’ Pumpkin Cupcake room perfume, and three Bath & Body Works hand soaps: from last fall, Pumpkin Berry Crumble made with pumpkin butter, and from this fall, Pumpkin Cupcake made with pure honey, and Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin (Purrfect Pumpkin) in Halloween packaging.

Bath & Body Works’ Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin 3-wick candle, Kringle Candle’s Pumpkin Sage wax melt, and Sassy Girl Aroma’s Pumpkin Pecan Waffles Sugar Cookies chunk bag, to cover all pumpkin bases.

Bath & Body Works’ Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte body scrub and whipped body butter, made with pure honey. These products are divine!

And finally, a little farm pumpkin with a lot of character, and a random attempt at pumpkin-shaped cookies: Halloween-y gingerbread cookies with orange frosting and green sprinkles. I’ll need to get more creative with these for the next batch, but they were quite tasty.

Fall Fun Series II: All About Apples

I’ll come right out and say it… for the most part, I do not like apples. I know, I’m weird. Most fruits are hit or miss for me, as far as snacking on ’em goes. However, I have found that I can tolerate the artificial scent of apples, preferably mixed with other yummy smells. For instance, the Warm Apple Pie wax melts & candles by Mainstays took me by surprise a few autumns ago. No recipes or decor for this girl, but, I do have a few new-to-me apple scents that I am excited to use this fall, much to the surprise of those that have ever lived with my love/hate/mostly hate relationship with apples.

I lucked out and bought several sugar scrubs from Bath & Body Works when they were on sale for only $6. Champagne Apple & Honey is a returning fall fragrance with notes of pink lady apple, sparkling champagne, and jasmine honey.

Caramel Applewood from Goose Creek is pretty much what I expected: green apple, caramel, and wood. I skipped this scent the past two fall seasons, but I made sure I grabbed it this time.

The Supernatural Victorian sampler from Vintage Chic Scents included two yummy apple melts. Witch’s Chair is Vermont honey apple and Vanilla Lace (Victoria’s Secret type), and Sanderson Sisters has notes of green apple, caramel, candy corn, and marshmallow.

Apple & Oats was one of many free samples I received from Candles From The Keeping Room last month. Its scent description includes crisp apple slices, steel cut oats, Tupelo honey, tart apple peel, vanilla extract, and maple sugar. Yummm. I feel spoiled already.

Even though the weather has started to change where I live, this past week+ has felt very un-autumn-like to me. I’ve temporarily slowed down on my pumpkin frenzy. My mother and I celebrated our birthdays along with two others in our family. For these occasions, I’ve gravitated more towards simple vanilla cake type scents, and I’ve enjoyed gazing at fresh flowers more than my pumpkins. I did, however, purchase my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season, and started the first late night fire. I’m curious to see if anyone is in full fall mode yet. I am certainly in full fall semester mode.

Fall Fun Series II: All About Autumn

Fall Fun Series II Photo

Hello, September! I’m excited to start out this month participating in the second annual Fall Fun Series with some fantastic bloggers! The first post of the series is a festive fall tag all about ourselves and autumn. Be sure to take a look at all of their posts as well for extra helpings of fall goodness each week:

Amanda at Thrifty Polished (thriftypolished.blogspot.ca)

Jay at The Candle Enthusiast (thecandleenthusiast.wordpress.com)

Julie at The Redolent Mermaid (theredolentmermaid.com)

Michelle at Melting With Michelle (meltingwithmichelle.com)

Sandra at Finger Candy (fingercandy.ca or fingercandy.wordpress.com)

Have you ever participated in a Fall blogging series?
I was late to join in, but I participated in the Fall Fun Series last year (2016) after looking up festive blogging tags to do for the first day of fall.

What are you most looking forward to this Fall?
I can’t wait to go pumpkin picking with my nieces and nephew again. I have yet to schedule the rest of my fun fall activities, but I’m definitely looking forward to Halloween and Thanksgiving as usual.

Crisp Fall mornings or cozy Fall nights?
Can I have both, please? I’d probably have to say fall nights, though. A good chunk of what I spend my time on during the season is watching creepy movies in PJs and catching up on all of the new fall TV shows with my significant other. Plus, I usually burn my candles at night! It is a tough choice though, because if I’m out on the lake, I’ll take an early morning sunrise at the firepit with a latte anytime.

When do you start decorating for Fall?
Fall begins for me on September 1st, to an extent. The pumpkins and leaves definitely start coming out and I’m 100% done with summer in terms of home fragrance and decor. On October 1st, Halloween decor goes up and on November 2nd, Thanksgiving decor comes out.

What is your favourite store to visit for Fall goodies? Share the link!
Bath & Body Works and Starbucks are a given for fall scents and treats. I’ve already visited each store a few times, and will likely visit several more times throughout the season!

If you had to get one Fall-themed image tattooed on your body, what would it be? For extra points, where?
Well… I’m a cat lady, so I would get a Halloween-y black cat tattoo. If that doesn’t count, then I’d get a fox. I would place the tattoo somewhere along one of my legs. When I ran this past my boyfriend, he didn’t sound too opposed to the idea…

Did you trick-or-treat when you were younger? What was the last costume you wore? What’s your dream costume (whether you actually got to wear it or not)?
I loved trick-or-treating as a kid. I went with my older brothers and our neighbors in a big group, and we’d stay out as long as we could and then compare candy piles afterward. The last costume I wore was cat ears & makeup for Halloween last year. I studied so many Youtube tutorials to make my face look cat-like! My current dream costume is probably something Game of Thrones related, but it’d be expensive to pull it off well, so that is why it remains in my dreams.

Favourite Fall home fragrance?
Leaves 3-wick candle by Bath & Body Works, and I also love Goose Creek’s Carrot Cake wax melts. I have added a lot of new stuff to my collection, however, so I’ll need to revisit this question at the end of the series.

Best body care fragrance for Fall?
Bath & Body Works Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte. I wasn’t always crazy about this scent, but I found myself craving it all summer, so now I’m very pleased to be using it again.

Must-have nail polish/perfume/makeup for the Fall?
Nail polish: Essie Playing Koi
Perfume: Victoria’s Secret Dark Angel
Makeup: Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance

Favourite Fall month?
Hmm… September is my birthday month, but all of the best fall activities happen in October, and November is such a peaceful beginning of the holiday season… all of them are my favorite, really.

What’s the weather like where you live?
It stays sunny and somewhat warm (by Midwest standards) up until early October, and then quickly becomes chilly, windy, wet, and dark. It is the best time of year for candles and hot coffee, that is for sure.

Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?
Totally. I decided that as a young child that gobbled up pumpkin pie whenever and wherever possible. It tastes and smells too yummy to resist in any of its forms. Lotions, coffees, cookies, wax melts… just gimme ’em all.

Favourite Thanksgiving food?
All of it. I love to cook and eat each dish! It is easier to just say “Thanksgiving Dinner” is one of my favorite meals.

Briefly describe your idea of a perfect Fall day.
My perfect fall day would include some element of nature, like a walk around town admiring the leaves, a trip to the lake, pumpkin picking at the farm, or sitting at a firepit in the evening. It would probably include some baking or cooking, lots coffee, lots of strong scents around the house, watching a football game with my family, and maybe even shopping so I can get more fall goodies.

Bath & Body Works Semi-annual Sale Summer 2017

I had to create a new Instagram account last weekend. Follow me @angela.mally for extra wax & candle posts 🙂

This is most of the damage that I did during the Bath & Body Works semi-annual sale for summer 2017, and its not a lot of stuff considering it has lasted all month. I am not much of a spring/summer person, so I haven’t been all that interested in the current collections. Fall and winter collections are another story… Still, I can usually find a few items that I like once the sale begins, and some things did stick out after shopping this year.

Truthfully, it was the candles that forced my hand when I submitted my orders online. I bought Paris Café for $10, along with four Tutti Dolci items and the Bourbon Strawberry Vanilla lotion that were 75% off. About a week later, the Paris/French collection went 75% off, so I picked four of those and bought the Berry Waffle Cone candle for $11. I also used a 20% off coupon code for both orders. I’ve had a difficult time trying to order the Berry Waffle Cone candle online, as it went out of stock almost daily. It is clearly a popular 3-wick.

My first impressions on some of these products: Paris Café is a very strong coffee fragrance, and to me, smells like a french vanilla cappuccino. I agree with the people that said Berry Waffle Cone smells like apple pie, and that White Mocha Kiss smells an awful lot like Beach Nights: Summer Marshmallow from last summer. The rest of the scents are originals to me. This is how the Bath & Body Works website describes each of these products:

Paris Café – Rich roasted coffee, sugared brioche, vanilla crème

Berry Waffle Cone – Sweet summer berries, golden waffle cone, creamy vanilla

Pink Peony Cremé – Blushing peony blossom, pink currant, & white amber dipped in nectar

White Mocha Kiss – Rich vanilla mocha & coconut orchid wrapped in marshmallow crème

French Riviera – Seaside citrus, jasmine water, amber musk, summer fig, driftwood

Bonjour Paris – Pink sugarcane, whipped marshmallow, candied orange blossom, white honeysuckle, fluffy amber

(Not pictured, it went straight into my purse!)
Bourbon Strawberry Vanilla – Bourbon vanilla, garden strawberry, & apricot nectar

Most of these scents are true to their titles and descriptions, except that I don’t really get as much sweetness out of Bonjour Paris as I expected. Another thing that I didn’t expect was enjoying Pink Peony Cremé as much as I do, because judging by its description, I figured I already had enough body care scents just like it.

Who has been shopping the B&BW semi-annual sale this month, and which candle & body care scents have you collected?

Blogmas 2016 Day 16: Too Faced and Tacos

Today I wanted to share one of my first holiday purchases of the season; it was a ‘must have’ for me once I saw the previews. Too Faced released several holiday gift sets ranging from $12 to about $60, including lip products, eyeshadows, mascara, and more. I’m so glad that I got my hands on the one set I was most excited for: Grande Hotel Café.

This particular set houses three holiday-themed palettes: Peppermint Mocha, Gingerbread Cookie, and Eggnog Latte. Each one is scented according to its name, and contains six eyeshadow colors colors each. Also included in the set are two blushes, a bronzer, and a Better Than Sex mascara.

I received this makeup set from Too Faced a couple of weeks ago, but I challenged myself not to start using it until Christmas and New Year’s Eve were closer. Today is the day!

I have a set of Philosophy perfumes that match perfectly with Grande Hotel Café’s colorful packaging. Maybe I should start using these sets together? I did get them both just for the holidays!

Today and tomorrow my life is all about snow. Some of my plans have been cancelled and my new plans for the time being are to keep up with the shoveling whilst cooking and baking. I couldn’t decide whether I wanted jambalaya or tacos for lunch, so I cooked up some Cajun chicken tacos. They came out a liiittle too spicy for me, so I had to add more sour cream to my tacos than I usually do. With all of the frost outside, I guess I could use the heat.

I also spontaneously picked up a couple more gifts while running out to get supplies for my snowed-in weekend. I couldn’t resist these little cuties for the kids in my family. I didn’t intend for it to be a tradition, but I seem to buy one or more of these as a gift every Christmas. It’s probably my past as a Beanie Baby collector that draws me to these TY stuffed animals.

Now it is time for me to bake more cookies as the snow falls and waits for me to shovel it away. Happy Friday!

Blogmas 2016 Day 12: Sephora Gifts for Myself!

I received in the mail a $15 off of $50 loyalty reward from Sephora (not a coupon – the code was sent to my e-mail address) so I decided to treat myself to makeup that I have been wanting since this summer. It sold out online and just about everywhere else and has been difficult to come by since then, but luckily the palette was in stock on the Sephora website recently. It is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance eyeshadow palette in gorgeous warm red and gold tones.

To bring my total up to $50 I added a nail polish set in colors that I thought would be appropriate for the holiday season.

I also added a code to receive a free gift which was a very pretty makeup bag (pictured above) filled with samples that I am eager to try out. Sephora really spoiled me this time.

I’ve had a busy day, but it isn’t over yet. I have some cardio and lifting to do and then it’s time to bake some cookies. I’ll be up early to get them decorated, and get some of them packaged to take to the post office. I still have Christmas cards to do, which I will probably take care of tomorrow as I don’t want to rush through them or wait until I’m beat. I also need to get holiday menus started, so a long trip to the grocery store may be in order.

Blogmas 2016 Day 7: Christmas Beauty Tag

Well, we made it through the first week of Blogmas! It has been surprisingly easy to keep up with holiday-related posts and I actually like winding down each night with a festive blog post. I’m aware of how much I overuse the word festive, but this blog series is just oozing with festivity. It will be really neat to look back on all of these posts next year, because it is usually only old photos that remind me of what previous holiday seasons were like. I wanted to do a Christmas tag today, so I chose one that focuses on beauty. I found this Christmas Beauty Tag through several blog posts from last year. Here we go!

1. Have you been naughty or nice this year with your skincare routine?
I have been nice to my skin this year, but I think I could do better. I need to invest in a good under-eye cream. Besides that, I’ve gotten better at completely removing all of my makeup every night, and moisturizing, exfoliating, using gentle cleansers, using sunscreen, never touching my face, and so on.

2. What’s the go-to beauty, makeup, or skincare product you would gift to your family and friends?
My family and close friends aren’t big on beauty products, so body care trios from Bath & Body Works in either men’s or women’s scents are my go-to products. They all seem to like a good scented shower gel and loofah every now and then. My boyfriend gets colognes from me a lot, too.

3. Do you mind gifting high-end products or rather gift drug store products to others?
I would love to gift some of my favorite Too Faced or Tarte products to others, but none of my friends or family are very into beauty products at the moment. Many of the women I am close to are mothers to young children and babies now and when the topic comes up, they say they have no interest in wearing makeup anymore. When they are ready, I’ll be there!

4. What are the beauty products you’re hoping to get to see under your Christmas tree this year?
I mentioned to my boyfriend that I am always looking for colorful, gooey lipglosses that hydrate my lips. I also mentioned that I wouldn’t be mad if I received the new Bath & Body Works Gingerbread Latte trio. There are a couple of high-end makeup products that I already ordered for myself and will be sharing on my blog soon!

5. What is the beauty product that you’re dreading to receive for Christmas this year?
At first I thought this question was ridiculous, because I never dread any gifts. If I had to answer, though… I remember in middle school and high school, my friends and I would often gift each other scented products like candles, lotions, and sprays, and sometimes I would receive fruity scents that I hated. Fruity scents are very hit or miss for me, because I generally don’t like most fruits. I received a Sparkling Peach spray one year, and something like a mango candle another time. I dread them because I would never re-gift something I received from a friend or loved one, so I force myself to use them. I still have some of that peach spray left all these years later…

6. Are you participating in Blogmas this year? If so what is the post you’re most proud of so far?
Yes, I am doing Blogmas this year. I don’t think I am proud of any particular post, I’m just happy that it is going so well. I thought it would be a challenge to keep up daily or that I would get tired of posting about Christmas.

7. Do you remember the first beauty product you received as a Christmas gift? What was it and did you enjoy it?
I remember when I was in kindergarten or first grade, I was in love with my mother’s red lipstick and pearls and was always caught playing with them. I was ridiculously girly. I only wanted to wear dresses, fancy jewelry, and was upset when I found out lipstick and blush wasn’t for me yet. I did finally receive my own red lipstick, on the condition that it only went on my face when my parents approved. It came in one of those cheap kid’s makeup sets that I’m sure we all remember wanting.

8. What mini size product would you recommend as a great stocking stuffer?
Too Faced has some adorable holiday items that are packaged as ornaments and would be great gifts for any makeup lover. I personally am a sucker for mini perfumes, and I know Sephora has some great sets of those year-round.

9. Would you rather your friends and family ask you gifts you wanted to receive or have them surprise you?
I would prefer if my friends and family didn’t purchase me anything at all and spent the money on their children or themselves. I hate feeling spoiled. I spend so much time spoiling myself! The coolest gift would be to come over and hang out with me for the holidays. They could also come bake and decorate Christmas cookies with me.

10. What is your favorite way to show Christmas spirit through your look or outfit?
I’m really into festive sweaters – not necessarily ugly Christmas sweaters, but I don’t mind those as long as they are cute! I have to have a comfy new sweater every year to wear for Christmas celebrations. As for my look, I’ll always choose whichever eyeshadow palette I’m in love with at the moment, find a matching lipgloss, and usually curl my hair.
