Bath & Body Works: Happy Easter + Easter Goodies

Happy Easter is a 14.5 ounce 3-wick candle from Bath & Body Works that retails for $24.50 in stores with a glitter lid, and $22.50 online without the decorative lid. I purchased this candle at my local store during a 2 for $24 candle sale, with the addition of a 20% off coupon I received in my e-mail.

HE

Two of my nieces and my mother were with me during this candle’s first burn and before we lit it, we passed it around and shared our thoughts on it through cold sniff. My younger niece thought it smelled like sugary candy. My other niece said that it smelled like sugar and cinnamon dessert, and my mother said that it smelled like oatmeal cookies baking in the oven.

Those were all pretty solid guesses. The scent notes for Happy Easter are White Sugar Crystals, Warm Vanilla Bean, and Crushed Cinnamon. To me, this candle smells like cinnamon rolls. It is similar to other sweet cinnamon candles that Bath & Body Works sells, such as Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla and Cinnamon Sugared Donut. I cannot actually say whether they are the same scents or not, as I don’t currently have either candle on hand to compare, but they are quite similar. I was able to test this in the store with the Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla 3-wick on cold sniff.

I wasn’t sure about this candle in the beginning and I wasn’t planning on buying it. I saw that the scent notes were different from the previous two years, and that this year’s Happy Easter candle included cinnamon. I didn’t like that – my fall and winter holiday candles already have a lot of strong cinnamon, so did I really need more cinnamon during a spring holiday? I didn’t get a chance to purchase B&BW’s Happy Easter candle in 2015 or 2016, which I believe had a raspberry note in place of the cinnamon and was marketed as a marshmallow and cotton candy scent. It just seemed like an odd change.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized it’s actually perfect… for me, at least. It isn’t a heavy, spicy cinnamon note like in fall candles. It brought me back to early Easter Sundays when my mother would put cinnamon rolls in the oven and their sweet aroma would fill the house as they baked. For a holiday loaded with chocolate bunnies and fruity jelly beans, a nice bakery cinnamon scent in the background is nice. I’m looking forward to lighting this candle during brunch this year (My Yankee Candle Bunny Cake large jar is for the evening).

The scent strength and throw is about a 5 or 6 out of 10, so it’s not going to throw anyone out of the room. I would recommend the fragrance to foodie scent lovers. If you can’t get past “cinnamon is for fall” association, I don’t blame you. I almost couldn’t either, but I’m glad I did.

Easter

Since I was in the mood to test Easter products, I picked up some Peeps Oreos and Cadbury Chocolate Creme Eggs. I really enjoyed the Oreos – I definitely do get the Peeps essence from the frosting. It’s got a marshmallow-y flavor and a slight crunch with sugar crystals, plus a bright pink color like the traditional treat. It’s almost a rice krispie treat flavor, but what I really get from it, overwhelmingly, are those pink and white frosted circus animal cookies with multi-colored sprinkles. The taste is almost exactly like those, only… it’s a deconstructed or rearranged version. It’s a hit for me.

The chocolate Cadbury Eggs were nice as well. Do I prefer them to the original? No. Are they a nice addition to one’s Easter basket? Absolutely! The filling is a bit like a brownie batter flavor, only with a chocolate frosting consistency. They are yummy, indeed. Chocolate lovers would definitely enjoy these, but I think fans of the original egg would like them too.

Blogmas 2016 Day 14: Cookies!

I had a lot of fun baking and decorating my first round of Christmas cookies. I put on the Frank Sinatra Christmas station on Pandora and was up all night and into the morning working on some goodies for my family and friends. My boyfriend was hard at work putting all of the lights and decor up outside – yes, in total darkness. We’re night owls this season, but at least we’re night owls together.

candybark

I made milk chocolate bark with caramel drizzle, crushed Reese’s cups, M&Ms, chocolate chips, and sprinkles. I think the kids in my family will enjoy them.

I was going through some of my old photos for reminders of what kind of treats were made for previous holiday seasons. Last year’s batches of  Christmas cookies and bark were a little different.

And the year before, it was all about easy and simple cookies, because my energy went to something else. I teamed up with my sister and we made a small village of gingerbread houses. I’m sad that I didn’t get pictures of each one.

Gingerbread houses are a lot more difficult to build than I remembered from my childhood. At least my nieces enjoyed destroying and eating them. This is why I’ve stuck to just making the cookies…

Blogmas 2016 Day 13: Christmas Cards & German Cookies

ccards

The time has come to finally fill out & mail a few Christmas cards to my loved ones. I’m starting to receive some in the mail and I just love seeing them on display in my kitchen, even if it highlights my own procrastination. It’s one of the first signs every year that the holidays have officially arrived. All I need to add in the kitchen are the Christmas cookies I ended up being too tired to bake last night… oops.

Luckily I’m covered for cookies at the moment. Every year for Christmas my mother’s father would ship her a box of her favorite German cookies. She was born and raised in Germany and her family still lives there, so they are happy to supply her with the Christmas cookies that she misses every December. This is a tradition that has persisted from my birth up to today, and I was delighted that this year my mother chose to share some of those German Christmas cookies with me again. They come in the most beautiful tin box every year that is really a gift in itself.

She was sure to give me my favorites and I’ve been munching on them all morning. The other thing I received was something I wouldn’t have ever expected to get for Christmas again – a Barbie. As a female working and studying in STEM fields, I was pretty thrilled to hear earlier this year that there was a new career Barbie with a computer-related job very similar to mine; a Game Developer Barbie. It’s pretty cool to see my past and my future collide in this way. I collected Barbies about as hard as I collect Bath & Body Works products.

I don’t think I’ll ever take her out of the packaging, because the background is one of my favorite parts.

Fall Favorites Tag: Remixed

I am not a warm weather person. It is uncomfortably humid where I live, so my summers are sticky and suffocating. On the flip-side, my winters are frozen and eternal. The spring and fall months are my reprieves, so I get very excited once they arrive.

To help immerse myself into the first official week of fall, I thought it would be fun to try out the Fall Favorites tag that became popular among beauty gurus on YouTube last fall. Since I am a scent junkie, and not a beauty guru, I decided to tweak the questions a little to suit my interests!

Favorite Candle
Bath & Body Works – Leaves

ffleaves
This is just my perfect autumn fragrance. It’s the first scent that I think of in relation to the fall season, and it’s the only one I cannot go without once the season begins.

Favorite Wax Melt
Goose Creek – Campfire Marshmallow

ffmelt
This scent is very, very similar to a popular pick for the candle question, which is Bath & Body Works – Marshmallow Fireside. However, I prefer Goose Creeks’ version by far. It is stronger, and in my opinion, the scent throw is much better. Highly recommended!

Favorite Body Care
Bath & Body Works – Plum Cider Warmth

ffbody
These products are from the 2015 fall traditions line. I regret not buying a matching shower gel, or the full-sized bottle of fragrance mist. They seemed to sell out fast.

Favorite Perfume
Victoria’s Secret – Forever Sexy

ffperf
I have a whole mob of perfumes for cooler weather, but this rollerball has been my favorite transitional warmer-to-cooler weather choice for the past 2 fall seasons.

Favorite Lip Color
NYX – Devil’s Food Cake

fflip
I prefer lip glosses to lipsticks, and the Nyx Butter Glosses are pigmented enough to put deep fall shades on my lips, while providing the glossy finish that I like.

Favorite Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced – Chocolate Bon Bons

ffpalette
I didn’t think of this as a fall-related palette until this past month, and now I can’t stay away from it. The deep browns, the mauve/taupe and gray shades… it’s just so perfect for the season.

Favorite Clothing Item
Scarves!

ffscarves

A scarf paired with a sweater is likely how one would see me dressed between October and March, whether I’m inside or outside.

Favorite Drink
Pumpkin Spice Latte

fflatte
I like both homemade and Starbucks PSLs. If it’s one of those times when I’m trying to lay off of the caffeine, then my go-to fall drink is a decaf vanilla chai tea latte… but I’ll still be craving a PSL.

Favorite Dessert
Tie-dye Cupcakes

ffdessert2

ffdessert
I love making these spooky, colorful treats for Halloween gatherings. They are especially great because it’s a surprise whenever someone bites into them!

Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Pumpkin Pie

ffthanks
The truth is, I LOVE Thanksgiving dinner. All of it. I like to cook each dish, I like to eat each dish, I like the days of leftovers that follow. I couldn’t pick just one, so I decided to go for the dessert – pumpkin pie. The reason why is that I can have Thanksgiving dishes year-round, but I pretty much only have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. It’s a little more special.

Favorite Fall Movie
Rob Zombie Movies

ffmovie
This guy just does creepy really well, but what I appreciate the most are the bits of humor that sneak by in his films. The Halloween remake was festive and entertaining.

Favorite Fall TV Show
American Horror Story

ffshow
I watch AHS every fall, as well as The Walking Dead, but I’m not a superfan of either show. I’m a Game of Thrones girl. However, I have enjoyed watching each season of American Horror Story so far. Season 2: Asylum was my favorite, and one I may have to re-watch.

Favorite Halloween Costume

ffcostume
Simple, easy, and obvious is the way I go for Halloween – or I should say, this is the stage that I’ve graduated to now. I killed it on costumes as a kid. I did cool face paint looks as a teen. I did “sexy” costumes as a young adult. Since age 24, I may have drinks with friends or take my nieces out trick or treating for Halloween, but I’ll typically stay home, eat candy, and watch horror movies with my boyfriend. (Picture: We dressed as Handsome Devils.)

I tag everyone to do the Fall Favorites tag, whether it is my remixed version, or the original by Jaclyn Hill!
