Fall Fun Series II: Fall Fashion

I was shopping for fall wax and hand soaps yesterday and I grabbed a sweater on my way out the door. It was the first day of fall, so I assumed: it will be chilly this evening, I better take this! No, it was hot and humid. It sat in the car the whole time. I didn’t even want a Pumpkin Spice Latte as I passed Starbucks, so I didn’t see if the fall cups were out yet! There have been plenty of cool days, however. I already took out my boxes of fall and winter clothing and have slowly moved out the summer wear.

I’m crazy about scarves, but I haven’t added many to my collection lately. I added a couple of shawls to my wardrobe last autumn, but I haven’t come across those yet. I’m excited about a few other new things I got with autumn in mind. I bought this cute Betsey Johnson bag at Macy’s back in the spring, but I put it away thinking I’d love it more in the fall. I was right.

My mother brought this necklace back for me from her recent trip to Germany. Although they are flowers, the colors just scream “autumn” to me. I’m sure it will be worn a lot this season.

I’m big on fuzzy socks during the colder months of the year. I love them even more than scarves. I’ll spare you… I won’t show the old, used socks in my collection! These ones are new and I can’t wait to wear ’em. One pair is solid brown and the other is green and brown with white snowflakes.

Owl leggings. Of course I needed to grab these. They’ll match perfectly with the fuzzy socks!

This is Aesop Rock merch, but I actually got this hoodie with Halloween in mind. I put on cat ears and makeup when I went trick-or-treating with my niece and nephew last year, so I think the freaky cat will match perfectly with the same get-up.

And lastly… this is not my picture, sadly. These have not yet arrived at my home, but they should be here next week. New booties!

That does it for my new fall fashion favorites. I’m sure I will be adding plenty more as it gets colder and colder here in the Midwest. Check out how fashionable the other Fall Fun Series bloggers are going to be this fall:

Fall Fun Series: Beverage & Colors

October ended with another lake trip, three more birthday parties, and multiple days of Halloween fun. After two fall months packed with activity, November is my calm before the holiday storm. I’m not skipping over Thanksgiving, but that has never been a very complicated holiday for me. Each year it never fails that I have more than one Thanksgiving dinner to attend, and traveling anywhere from one to four hours is usually part of that. I don’t mind it at all, though. I could argue that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It makes me so happy to get together, cook with my family and friends, and spend the day vegging out together either watching football or playing card games. Everyone has “their element” and apparently, this is mine. Up until that week, though, the only thing on my agenda is paying attention to the election and hoping that there is peace in the U.S. once it is all over. Life must go on…

It’s interesting observing my own patterns and the way I act according to the season or how I categorize things according to the time of year. For example, since it’s November and I know Christmas will be taking over my life soon, I feel pressured to “finish up” with my pumpkin spice body care, home fragrance, and snacks. I’ve had my fill of pumpkin spice lattes, there is no doubt about that, so lately I’ve been making caramel mocha lattes instead. An ex-boyfriend gifted me a latte machine for Christmas several years back, so I get to have the whole cafe experience: frothed milk, coffee infused with syrups and creams, and single or double serving sizes to prevent me from going too crazy and drinking a whole pot. My current boyfriend, on the other hand, does not share in my “everything according to the season” philosophy and will eat, drink, use, and smell like anything at any time of the year as desired. I’m fairly certain he cannot relate to my need to rotate scents, flavors, and colors simply because it is November now. I don’t blame him.

I’ve removed my Halloween decor, of course, but also switched some other things around. I’ve pulled out sweaters, scarves, and mittens to keep warm, and the contents of my beauty bag have darkened in their shade range. Nothing screams “I love fall!” quite like coordinated lip, nail, and accessory colors. Obviously, scents are included in this November transition of mine. I am a Bath & Body Works junkie first and foremost, so I set aside two 3-wick candles just for the beginning of November: fall 2015 Sweater Weather, and a new release from this fall, Caramel Woods. I have not mentally prepared myself enough to go through my collection and decide which fall scents I want to use before it becomes winter’s turn, but I do know there is a Pumpkin Pie large jar saved for Thanksgiving week.

Fall Favorites Tag: Remixed

I am not a warm weather person. It is uncomfortably humid where I live, so my summers are sticky and suffocating. On the flip-side, my winters are frozen and eternal. The spring and fall months are my reprieves, so I get very excited once they arrive.

To help immerse myself into the first official week of fall, I thought it would be fun to try out the Fall Favorites tag that became popular among beauty gurus on YouTube last fall. Since I am a scent junkie, and not a beauty guru, I decided to tweak the questions a little to suit my interests!

Favorite Candle
Bath & Body Works – Leaves

This is just my perfect autumn fragrance. It’s the first scent that I think of in relation to the fall season, and it’s the only one I cannot go without once the season begins.

Favorite Wax Melt
Goose Creek – Campfire Marshmallow

This scent is very, very similar to a popular pick for the candle question, which is Bath & Body Works – Marshmallow Fireside. However, I prefer Goose Creeks’ version by far. It is stronger, and in my opinion, the scent throw is much better. Highly recommended!

Favorite Body Care
Bath & Body Works – Plum Cider Warmth

These products are from the 2015 fall traditions line. I regret not buying a matching shower gel, or the full-sized bottle of fragrance mist. They seemed to sell out fast.

Favorite Perfume
Victoria’s Secret – Forever Sexy

I have a whole mob of perfumes for cooler weather, but this rollerball has been my favorite transitional warmer-to-cooler weather choice for the past 2 fall seasons.

Favorite Lip Color
NYX – Devil’s Food Cake

I prefer lip glosses to lipsticks, and the Nyx Butter Glosses are pigmented enough to put deep fall shades on my lips, while providing the glossy finish that I like.

Favorite Eyeshadow Palette
Too Faced – Chocolate Bon Bons

I didn’t think of this as a fall-related palette until this past month, and now I can’t stay away from it. The deep browns, the mauve/taupe and gray shades… it’s just so perfect for the season.

Favorite Clothing Item

A scarf paired with a sweater is likely how one would see me dressed between October and March, whether I’m inside or outside.

Favorite Drink
Pumpkin Spice Latte

I like both homemade and Starbucks PSLs. If it’s one of those times when I’m trying to lay off of the caffeine, then my go-to fall drink is a decaf vanilla chai tea latte… but I’ll still be craving a PSL.

Favorite Dessert
Tie-dye Cupcakes

I love making these spooky, colorful treats for Halloween gatherings. They are especially great because it’s a surprise whenever someone bites into them!

Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Pumpkin Pie

The truth is, I LOVE Thanksgiving dinner. All of it. I like to cook each dish, I like to eat each dish, I like the days of leftovers that follow. I couldn’t pick just one, so I decided to go for the dessert – pumpkin pie. The reason why is that I can have Thanksgiving dishes year-round, but I pretty much only have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. It’s a little more special.

Favorite Fall Movie
Rob Zombie Movies

This guy just does creepy really well, but what I appreciate the most are the bits of humor that sneak by in his films. The Halloween remake was festive and entertaining.

Favorite Fall TV Show
American Horror Story

I watch AHS every fall, as well as The Walking Dead, but I’m not a superfan of either show. I’m a Game of Thrones girl. However, I have enjoyed watching each season of American Horror Story so far. Season 2: Asylum was my favorite, and one I may have to re-watch.

Favorite Halloween Costume

Simple, easy, and obvious is the way I go for Halloween – or I should say, this is the stage that I’ve graduated to now. I killed it on costumes as a kid. I did cool face paint looks as a teen. I did “sexy” costumes as a young adult. Since age 24, I may have drinks with friends or take my nieces out trick or treating for Halloween, but I’ll typically stay home, eat candy, and watch horror movies with my boyfriend. I tag everyone to do the Fall Favorites tag, whether it is my remixed version, or the original by Jaclyn Hill!

Ipsy Glam Bag May 2015

I’ve been so wrapped up with school this month that I’d almost completely forgotten about my Ipsy Glam Bag. By the time I realized that I should check if my tracking information had been e-mailed yet (on Monday, May 11th), the bag was actually already out for delivery! It was the fastest I’ve received my bag since joining in January. I guess it’s appropriate that this month’s theme is Jetsetter .

What I love about this month’s bag is that every item is something I haven’t received from Ipsy yet. More importantly, it contained things that I’m lacking and was planning on purchasing anyway! I’m happy to have a new eyeliner and bronzer to try, and I’m excited to try everything else as well. Once again, I’m happy with what I received from Ipsy.

If you’d like to receive a Glam Bag of your own for $10 per month, my referral link is right here! Or check out ipsy.com for more info. If you’d like more details about what’s included in my bag, feel free to leave a comment. 🙂

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2015

I kept forgetting to post about my Ipsy Glam Bag! I received this month’s Beautifully Bohemian bag on the 13th. It came earlier than expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. As usual, I already knew what I was getting in the bag, so that much wasn’t a surprise.

I loved this bag! I’ve developed a love of fragrances over the years and thought that the Femina EDT was nice. I was beyond thrilled to receive a perfume as one of my items. It’ll certainly be a lovely scent for the rest of spring. I have to admit, although I do love everything else, I’ve not tried the other items yet. I’m totally swamped with school and work. At the moment, I’ve been awake 24 hours already and am heading to bed. I never really have time for anything else…

I would be more than happy to go into greater detail about my Ipsy bags in the future if anyone is interested. If you would like to receive one of your own, you can use my referral link here or go to ipsy.com and sign up. Only $10 a month (including shipping!) for 4 – 5 beauty items and fashionable bags. This is my 3rd month subscribed and I don’t plan on canceling.

I’m exhausted. It’s almost 6am. I better go to sleep!

Ipsy Glam Bag March 2015

I received my second Ipsy Glam Bag on March 14th this year, and since I get overly excited about my bags, I already knew what I was getting because I checked. It wasn’t much of a surprise, but I still loved everything included in the bag! I think I’m most excited about the shadow/crease duet Crown brush.

If you’d like to receive your own Ipsy Glam Bag, sign up here! For only $10 a month, I haven’t felt the need to unsubscribe to the service yet. I think I will continue paying until I start getting bags that disappoint me. So far, so good!

My Valentine: Ipsy Glam Bag

Every now and then I enjoy splurging on new beauty products so I can look forward to getting ready for everyday activities, going out, going to celebrations, shopping, dinners… anything at all! With so many occasions, it’s nice to have different products available to fit the mood or look more festive.

This can become costly, and at the beginning of this year I was starting to get carried away until I found a really interesting subscription service – Ipsy. I signed up to receive a Glam Bag every month, which contains about 5 beauty products at only $10, plus a really cute bag. Some of the possible products are makeup, tools, nail polish, skin care, hair care, and more.

I received my first Glam Bag on Valentine’s Day this year, and I’m pretty happy with it. Not everything in the bag is something I would have bought myself, but I like having some new, different options in my collection.

I will probably post about the bags I get on my blog each month, and then decide if I want to continue receiving them every month. It’s pretty inexpensive, so why not?

Here is my referral link, if anyone else is interested in trying out this service! : Ipsy Glam Bags!
